Read to people, teach someone to read, teach someone about art, do a play or theater for free, do a dance production or have a dance for the adult mentally handicapped. One cool one I heard about was a formal dance (for adult developmentally handicapped who usually didn't get to go to a prom) where they provided clothes and jewelry and had volunteers help the participants get dressed up. Then the volunteers dressed up too, and made sure everyone got to dance and have a good time. Photographs are great conversation starters-go to the nursing home and do some trips down memory lane with the lonely residents.
You'll learn a lot, and feel good about yourself, too.
