study in the field of art, photography, or art history If you are qualified to be accepted by the school, you could apply almost anywhere, take classes for a semester and then not return the following year. A better route is to check for a "visiting student" or for a "lifelong learning" program which many schools offer. If you qualified for a program like this, it sort of streamlines the admissions process although there are still standards to meet. The admissions office would be able to tell you if such a program exists at their school.
However, you should realize that you aren't likely to be able to just waltz in and pick courses just because you are interested in them. Most studio programs have pre-requisites so you'd have to fulfill those requirements before you would be eligible for other studio courses. And some programs (photography is usually one of them) are very popular and so it would be highly unusual for a non-major to just wander in and get into the course.
Basic art history surveys are probably fairly easy to get into because they are often larger lectures and are open to students from all areas of campus. Again, advanced courses might have restrictions and enrollment limits that you'd have to consider. |
