Photography???

I want to get into photography but I'm not sure where to go with it. I'm still a highschool student... an my parents tell me there isn't money to be made through Arts in general. can someone help me?

Also if i wanted to study abroad .. where would be the best place for photography?

Take a traditional (film not digital) photo class series once you get to a college with a darkroom facility. Take the series all the way to where they teach you large format photography (camera movements). At that point, you will know if photography is the career for you. There are a lot of techniques gained from traditional film that can be transferred to digital, but are best understood and appreciated when starting from film. You can find really cheap (but good) used equipment on eBay. Don't spend so much money on equipment when you are starting up..the equipment will not necessarily make you a better photographer.

Abroad: SF Bay Area, New York, Europe (Italy)

italy or europe in general is gorgeous!!. that would be fun, but if you realy like it and are good go for it,,, at times you may need a part time job to help you but when it comes to arts when they sell, they make big money!!

take it very seriously if thats what u really want to do. I'm 32 now and i've always loved art and photography, but i put on the side for along time. now i'm regretting not following up on my dream. i'm trying to get back on it , but now it's just for hobby, i wish it would have been my career instead.theres alot of money into, so get into it! good luck

The steady money in photo is photojournalism. you take photos professionally and you can afford to do the art stuff on the side. i dont know much about studying abroad but the internet is a great tool. I am a military photojournalist and they have taught me as much or more than most schools. there are many routes to achieving your goal. research well.

There is money in photography. Newspapers, magazines, and TV stations are always looking for pictures from people. Start snapping pictures of foul weather, beautiful days, or other weather oriented material and send them to your local TV station or CNN. See if they use them. You will have to have a digital camera so they get there while the weather is still going on. Check colleges for photography courses. Don't get discouraged. Maybe your parents are wanting you to be a doctor or lawyer to make big bucks. Do what you want to do with your life. You are the one that has to live it.

The arts can be a very rewarding career. There are pictures everywhere you look. Try going a day in your life and not see a photograph. You won't be able to do that unless you're blind. Yes the photographic market is saturated (full), opportunities exists for anyone with talent.

As to the abroad study; I guess that depends on your personality. If you like the beaches, perhaps you'll go to the Caribbean. If you enjoy ancient history you might visit Egypt. The world is as diverse as your imagination.

I can't think of anything worse than wanting to do something and not at least trying to succeed. So if you have a dream for your life, follow it!
