Both of these sites also have a lot of reviews available which may help you in your decision. Look online first: try eBay, yahoo shopping, or Froogle to compare prices. Even if you don't want to buy from an online store the latter two sites will let you see prices from regular big box stores. They have the canon A700(6mp-6x optical zoom) on special today, 289.99 with 1gb sd card and free shipping. pricegrabber.com www.bestpricedcameras.com has the best prices anywhere. It seems anytime you buy from E-Bay you get ripped. Check Best Buy and Circuit City..even Wal Mart has some nice pictures. You can also check out HH Gregg my opinion:

-i think if you do not care about the size of the camera, canon S2 IS gives you the best bang for your buck.
-if you want a slim camera with ~10x optical zoom, panasonic has one, Panasonic DMC-TZ1 (look up reviews from dpreview for example)
-for both the cameras above, it comes with image stabilization, which is a big thing now
-if you want to get an ultra-compact camera with (reasonably) fantastic video capability, get the casio ex-z750. this is a 7.2 mp camera and it records videos in mpeg4 format, and with a 2 gig card, you can record video over an hour long at 640x480 resolution. the higher megapixel lets you zoom and crop further, so to me, it is equivalent to having a little more optical zoom (though not really) compared to the exact same camera with lower mps.
