What is the best, reasonalby priced, digital camera?

While I love the upscale Nikon cameras, I'd suggest you look into the Canon A620. We did a lot of shopping while trying to stay in the under $400 range and this is exactly what we bought for our adult son before he went on a trip to Europe. For that money, you can get the camera and a one gigabyte memory card. The A620 lets you control everything, if you know how, or it takes great shots in several automatic modes. It uses "AA" batteries, too.

The A620 was a Comcast Shopping Top Choice for several months.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists.

Kodak EasyShare C530 it takes pics and short videos plus it's under 100 bucks

I love my Canon PowerShot. they don't make my model anymore, but they have several to choose from. Be sure not to get the Elph, as the lens is not that good.

What is reasonably priced mean to you? To me it means around $500 since I buy Nikon digital SLRs such as the D2s and the new D80.

Here are some choices.
Point and shoot - Canon SD650 or 700 - around $400
Nikon d50 with lens - around $600-700
Nikon D80 with lens - around $1300

You can find much cheaper and you can find much more expensive.

I suggest staying with the major brands such as Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, Olympus.

Fuji finepix f30 for a compact camera.
For a DSLR, it's either Canon digital rebel xti or Nikon d80.
