My opinion is do not go for anything under 4 megapixals and make sure that it is a rechargeable lithium battery otherwise you'll be spending more money on batteries then the camera in the end. You'll have to spend at least $200 but it's a good investment. After that it is up to taste.

Most people have a specific brandname they like. I personally like Fuji but I know someone with a kodak and they have no complaints.

drop a few hints that you would like a camera for Easter, your birthday, or Christmas....i got a Kodak easyshare last Christmas... and the best part is its free for you lol

I highly recommend the Nikon CoolPix which is a series of different models.
You can get one from 4 megapixels, up to about 8 or even possibly 10 megapixels.

I have had very, good results with the coolpix.
It's tiny, and made quite well.
You get the bang for the buck with this camera.
