Im going to buy my first digital camera this Sunday, whats the best brand?

CANON

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

What type are you getting?

According to J.D. Power, here are the most satisfying brands in different categories.

DSLR: Nikon
Point & Shoot: Fujifilm
Premium Point & Shoot: Canon
Ultra Slim: Casio

Of course, you really need to handle several different models and see which one fits you, the photographer. If the camera is too bulky, too complicated, too small, or doesn't seem to make sense, then it will be come an obstacle to your creativity. It's really a personal choice.

I hope you find this helpful.

Coming from several years of camera repair and photographers fact and opinion. I think the best brand would be Canon. Through out the years of fixing cameras I have found at least half a dozen key factors that all lead to Canon. One is that I hardly see Canons on my operating table. Two if it did need repair, it was because of user abuse. Three, I get to use all kinds of models and manufactures cameras and found that Canon is the fastest when comes to capture speed and lag time (instant that you press the shutter button, to time it takes for the shutter to react.) Have a look at the Rebel XTi or the EOS 5D for the SLR type camera. Or the 850is power shot. Another good brand and model from a different manufacture would be Olympus 770sw, a totally underwater camera, that is shock proof as well. It has no moving lens that moves in and out of the camera, so the chances of it malfunctioning is less. The only thing I dont like about it is its lag time.

Go to the local camera/video store and look at various types and models.. Look for ease of use, size and basic capabilities.. Just because it has ALL the bells and whistles doesn't mean it's the BEST.. It's really what works for your basic needs... Incidently, most places try and sell you a bizillion megapixels, which is fine if you are going to be printing billboards/poster prints.. However, it's NOT a huge deal if you stay around 5 or 6.. That's way more than enough for the novice or beginning photographer.. So, don't get all worried about that... Get one with a higher "optical" zoom vs. digital zoom and a high quality lens(glass).. (Hasselblad, Schneider) if you can find it.. It should say right on the lens glass itself.. If you aren't sure ASK the sales associate he/she should be able to help you IF you go to a full service camera/video store... Then research prices on the internet... I'm partial to NIKON but, there's so many brands and styles it's really a wise idea to look for yourself.. Good luck

Go with Sony or Canon.

I would say Canon. my sister has a Canon camera and it works really well. people say Nikons are good, but I've been looking for a new camera also, and Nikons never seem to have the best reviews. hope that helped!

Hi im on my thrid one i had a very junky one at frist then i moved to a little more better but simply to use from nikon and now i have a Fujifilm finpix s5200 if this is ur frist time using one dont buy the best get something simple that u can learn and get good at it also depends on what use u want it for

I agree with Pebblespro. You should play with the display models and get whichever seems easy to use. Having said that...I've been happy with the Fujifilm Finepix F10 so I would get the Fujifilm Finepix F30 or F50 if you want a compact. For a bigger camera, get the Olympus SP550UZ.

sony..

It all depends on what you want, but some of the best rated in Consumer Reports are:
Canon PowerShot A710IS $300
Kodak EasyShare X612 $230
and if you want tiny ones:
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2 $350
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T50 $450
Canon PowerShot SD800IS ELPH $400
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W50 $180

Canon hands down.
