As a casual photo-taker, you cannot go wrong with a Canon SD 700IS. If you want to be more creative and get wide-long zoom shoots, Canon S3 IS. However, no point-and-shot digital can match the Digital SLR cameras for fast response and low photo noise. The new winner for mid priced ditial SLR would be a Nikon D200 with its 18-75mm zoom lens.
