I just bought a Cannon wd-50 and it's amazing. The best digital I could find under 300.

I've got a LUMIX (Panasonic) DMC FZ7 and love it. I do a lot of sport photography and really appreciate it's ultra fast speed. Great optical zoom (12X) and image stabilisation. One of the best cameras for the buck!

Pretty much any DSLR will have a shorter shutter lag than any point and shoot digital camera.
