What is the best digital camera in the market, that is also affordable?

What would you like, Point and shoot variety or Digital SLR (single lens reflex)?

P & S varieties are small, but limited in its capability. But, easy to carry, hold and shoot. They are popular. Sony has one that is about a credit card size, fits in your shirt pocket. It is really neat.
You can also show off a lot with it.

DSLR's are for those who are particular about the picture quality, put some creativity into their work and want that little "umph" to their picture taking.

The main difference between DSLR cameras and standard point-and-shoot digital cameras is how the imaging mechanism works. DSLRs use an optical viewfinder and shuttered mirror to compose shots. The light floods into the camera body and onto the sensor all at once as the mirror quickly lifts out of the way.

With P&S and DSLRs, You also get the digital advantage, with the ability to immediately review your shots, delete the ones that don't like, and keep on shooting until you run out of subjects.

Sports shooting is best with DSLRs because rapid shooting with one press of the button is possible. You can capture the action in vivid detail. P&S are not so good at this.

Price? A good DSLR will cost under $1000. P&S will set you back by about $500. Obviously price point will determine your final purchase decision. Put a bit more thought into it such as your present and future requirements before deciding.

I recommend Nikon D50 /Canon Rebel XT for DSLR and Canon SD550 for P&S.
