Depends on what features matter most to you. In the ultra-compact group I really like the Canon Powershot SD450/500/650/ etc line.
They are well made and take great pix and video.

There are two that I would recommend:

Canon SD700IS- excellent image quality in a wide variety of scenarios. Image stabilization.
Fuji F30- the ONLY compact camera with high ISO capability that rivals DSLRs. ISO 800 is pretty clean. Battery life of 580 shots!

ok, and here's a third choice:

panasonic FX01 or FX07- excellent 28mm wide angle leica lens, fast resonse, image stabilization, excellent price. Downside- poor high ISO performance.
