Which digital camera is the best buy with the most options.I am a beginner.?

The best camera is the one that fits YOUR budget and YOUR needs. And megapixels is only one consideration...

a) DSLR or point & shoot? DSLRs are more expensive and heavier. OTOH, you have many more options in lenses and typically have better features.

b) How big a form factor and how long should the batteries last? If you want something to slide in a shirt pocket, you would need a very big pocket to fit a Nikon D2x.

c) Image quality. This is partly megapixels but also virtually everything else -- quality of the lens, the metering, the a/f, even the image processing software on the camera. (BTW, there are at least 20 megapixel digital camera backs out there that run upwards of $15k -- that is without the camera body or any lenses!)

So what to do?
1) Establish your budget. Your budget should also include money for more/bigger digital storage cards, a case of some sort, and perhaps a spare battery.
2) Think about what you want to take pictures of, in what light and how will they be used. Megapixels is important when you start printing big (i.e., a 6mp should have no problem with 8x10s).
3) If you go DSLR, I would stick with Nikon or Canon. P&S, I wold look at SOny, Panasonic (probably my fav right now) and Canon.
4) What features are important to you? The ability to use AA batteries? Manual focus? Ability to shoot full manual? Fast lens? Wider angles? More telephoto? etc.
5) Read the reviews and compare the features on dpreview.com
6) Try them out in a store.

the sony r1 or h1 are the beast camera with a lot off object for profeshinols and amators if u dont like a sony u can get the cannon pro shot1(enjoy it my friend)

Our first digital camera was a Kodak 4.0 pix with the docking station.
Not a good choice. Had nothing but trouble.

Get someone to explain the options to you at the store and go with what you are needing. Not all the options are always good. And more expensive is not best.

The higher the pixels are the quality of the size of pictures you will be wanting to print. The LCD screen size is what all you will be able to get in the picture when you are looking through the camera. But half the time you will turn this feature off and look through the view finder to save on battery life. Batteries will eat you up using the LCD screen.
My nephew is the type that looks up everything he buys and always is looking for the best deal for the quality of product. He is very electronically inclined. So the camera we went with that he suggested was the Sony Cyber-shot. 7.2 mega pixels. We really like it. Good luck.

For the price and ease of operation I bought my mom sister and daughter the kodak 760 with printer dock because It was the easiest way to get them going on digital photography with a quality product. You need minimal accessories 1 SD card I recommend at least 512 mb but 1 gb is better especially if you want to do video.

I found bizrate.com to be a good place to search once you have the model number you want for the best price on product. Buy.com has excellent prices on SD memory.

You should look at the resolution, optical zoom, image processing speed, and the brand. It is well-known that Canon produce the best digital cameras.

* 4 megapixels is more than enough for average users. If you intend to print out large size picture, then you should go with 6-7 megapixels (mp).

I recommend Canon PowerShot SD300 (4 mp), SD400(5mp), SD450 (5mp), or SD500 (7 mp) depending on your budget. Canon Powershot cameras are compact, stable, and have a faster and better image processors than other brands with a similar price. Sharp pictures and good quality movies. And you don't need to worry about buying batteries or a battery charger. A Lithium Ion battery is in the box. Another plus is that Canon SD cameras are made in Japan.
