Depends on what you want. If you want full manual control, the Canon PowerShot A series is the way to go. A little bulkier but a lot more flexible. If physical size is important to you, the S400 is the best value, which costs around $200 if you look around. I recommend Canon because they're the only digital camera company that manufacturers both the computer and camera components of the camera.
