What is the best digital camera that I can buy if I only have $170?

I have limited budget, but I want to get the best one that I could with the money ive got. Thanks for your help! :)

The argus 5150 Quick clix.. It is 5 mp... It has sd card for memory.. records video with sound.... (Has some crappy games :) ) Black and white/ sepia settings BEST camera I've ever seen.. I just bought one... 70 $ canadian. (No optical zoom though....)

I think you would be happy with the Fugifilm F20. It has image stabilization and 6.3 Megapixels, with a rare iso2000 and it can shoot continuously with 3 frames per second, no batteries to replace and shoots 300 frames on 1 charge. I have not seen a better deal for under $143.94 on Amazon.com......and it went to the battlefield in a soldiers pants pockets in Iraq. He sat on it and sweat and sand and never missed one shot and came home with him. Thats why I bought it.

Some of our best answerers always recommends the Fujifilm FinePix F20 camera as the best-for-less choice. I have to say that I like the sample images at Steve's site (below). If Morey000 or SpaceCowboy show up after me and make this recommendation, choose them as the best answer, because I'm just passing along their suggestion. I have no personal experience with this camera. I see it at B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) for $150; $190 with a 1 GB Sandisk memory card.

My brother has the A540 and my mother-in-law has the A530 - on my recommendation - and neither one has stopped speaking to me yet. Based on this and experience with other Canon Powershot cameras, I am now recommending the A550 as a nice and relatively inexpensive camera.

Canon just introduced the A550, which has more pixels, but offers less user control. I'd be happy with the A540, but the A550 is probably also worth considering, especially since the A540 is now harder to find. I think it's been discontinued. The A550 costs $170 at B&H and, of course, you'll need a memory card.

We had this same question a few months ago, and decided to save up and buy a good all around camera...
We bought the Cannon Rebel XT...$600.00 on E-BAY, came with 2 batteries, charger, case, table top tripod,...
For common user it is simple to use and we found that the batteries last longer and we shoot about 1000 picture before down loading... We shoot in high quality and pictures are large 3 to 3.5M...So you have to delete the ones you don't want and save the rest to disk... Went to an Air Show and shot 670 pictures and only used half the battery,and got the best pictures We ever got at and air show....
