My husband does art and wants to create a website. What types of cameras would be best to buy for great, clear pictures of detailed art? You may not believe this, but for web use almost any modern digital camera will be adequate.
What you DON'T want is to publish gigantic, 5 megapixel photos on a website. The website will be slow and you will use up your monthly bandwith quickly. Most computer monitors are about 1MP - so posting photos larger than that is wasteful.
For your purposes, you should look for a camera with as good a lens as possible. Forget about MP ratings and lens "X" zoom ratings. They will be of no use to you. Look at the "f" focal-length ratio numbers of the lens. (Also known as "F-stop") The lower the ratio, the better.
Buy a tripod. It will help hold the camera still for the type of photography you want to do. You probably already have experience with properly lighting artwork for display. The camera flash will likely produce poor results so you should rely on your art lights. Make pictures using the tripod and adjust the camera white balance to get the correct colour match for the art lights.
