What thing should I look for in a good digital camera? Heck no. IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE A VIEWFINDER!!! (See my rant about this below.)
It is not even close when compared to a digital SLR of almost ANY make.
The sensor is tiny compared to DSLR's. You are stuck with the lens they chose for you. The batteries run down practically overnight compared to any DSLR. Is it still the best when you don't consider DSLR's? I don't think so. Again, see my rant about cameras without viewfinders.

Get a Canon Powershot A630 or A640 instead.
I lament the passing of the optical viewfinder and I would choose almost any camera with an optical viewfinder over one that only has an LCD viewfinder. Why?
1. You never have the option of turning off the LCD and these things eat batteries for lunch and spit them out. Why do away with the option of a viewfinder that has zero electrical drain?
2. You have to hold an LCD viewer out at some distance in front of your face. This is more conspicuous than I prefer to be all the time.
3. The need to hold a camera at arms length will introduce some shake. I like the idea of stabilizing a camera against my face when I am taking a picture. This is especially important with a longer zoom lens. No wonder "image stablization" or "vibration reduction" is necessary with these cameras. Not that there's anything WRONG with IS or VR, but it is really a requirement with LCD viewfinders and telephoto lenses.
4. Using the LCD to view photos after you've taken them slows down the camera quite a bit. You can't shut of the LCD monitor and still take pictures if you don't have an optical viewfinder. i woundt buy ANOTHER sony anything even if you paid me. yes i would say you should by a camera that is not cheap because cheap things don't work well for very long believe me i know. I own a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2. How can u say Sony best out there when u have canons, olympus, and Nikons. From magazine I'm looking at DSC -N1 is sub compact with 3X optical zoom. I imagine N2 has same optical zoom and maybe same megapixels of 8. There are super-zooms with same price or cheaper with optical zoom of 12X. Whatever camera you buy learn EVERY function of that camera for very best results. |
