What's a good digital camera to buy? What all can you do with it? Is it really worth your money? What accessories do you need with it?And, where did you purchase it? You didn't realize that this question is impossible to answer, so I'll assume you are new at digital photography and start there. Please forgive me making the assumption that you are looking for an entry level camera if this incorrect.
Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for being a 10 MP camera.
I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.
The A620 was rated about twice as good as any as far a battery life. I hope the A630 and A640 are just as good. Use Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries and you will be happy with battery life.
With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

If you want a sleek, smaller camera that will easily fit in your pocket, consider the Canon Powershot SD600. It gives up some of the features of the A630 and 640, but at least it still has an optical viewfinder, which I consider to be essential.

If you want to trim the budget a little, the Canon Powershot A430, A530 or A540, are all great choices. You will need a decent memory card, though. I'd say get at least 512 MB.

As far as accesories go, a memory card is a must, one with high storage and memory. Another very useful one is a tripod stand. Keep in mind, it depends how serious are you at photography and how much are you willing to spend.
There are inexpensive cameras (<$200) that will do a good job for just basic photos.
There are moderate priced cameras ($200-$750) that will do more and have more pixels.
Then there are expensive (>$750 up to several thousand dollars) that use 8-10 megapixels and offer full lens compatibility to do professional type photography.
In general, look for the most megapixels for the price. That will allow you to crop photos and enlarge smaller parts of a print into a large photo and not get the crappy pixelation where you can see the individual pixels and not a clear & crisp photo.
I have a friend that bought a $1500 Canon EOS and is selling it because it is too complicated.
One feature I like is a big screen on the back of camera to view pics as you take them. I have a Nikon Cool Pix and the screen is somewhat small.
I saw a camera made by Casio called Exilim series. This was at Radio Shack. It had 10 million megapixels and had a huge screen on back. It was also very slim. Cost at Radio Shack was around $300 but at the time it was on sale for less.
