Sony Cyber Shot Camera with water damage?

I got a sony touch screen cyber shot digital camera for my birthday... well three months later my dad put it through the wash. :( i'm really upset about it because I know it was 300 $! I was just wondering if you guys think it would be cheaper to just go buy a new one when its all said and done? How much do you think Sony will charge me to repair the camera? If it cost more then 100, i'd rather just go buy a new camera!

Interesting... this month we've already had a camera that fell into a swimming pool, one that fell into a glass of milk, one that bounced off of a cliff into the ocean, and my personal favorite: one that was killed by a chocolate milk shake.
As with all of those, I'm afraid that your camera is quite dead. Replacing it is the only way to go.
Oh, you might want to tell your father about the Olympus SW line of cameras - they're water proof :-)

I think you are right about just buying a new camera. The camera that got washed is damaged .. so it might never work good again - even it is repaired. A new camera would not have had those problems.

And .. if you spent money on the camera that got washed - and the camera never worked good again - then it would have been something like applying good money - after bad.

A new camera might be the best way to go.

Have a look on the internet at camera repair sites.I dropped my Sony cybershot the other day and the zoom lens has now broken.If you send it direct to Sony i think it will cost you more than sending it off to a place on the internet.Just get a few quotes and you can then see if it's worth getting repaired or having a new one.Good luck anyway they are great cameras.Btw have you tried putting it on top of a radiator to dry out.I did that with my mp3 player and it started working after a while

You can use the Sony as a paperweight.
