Camera/ Beauty Makeup Person Q?

Alritee, so I'm going to be doing youtube makeup videos in a while (once i start building my collection over these few months), and so I'm going to get a camera (digital). Now my only problem is that when I try to take a picture of my eye makeup, the flash over-powers it and you can't see my makeup. So how do I avoid that? Like, should I turn off the flash...or what? But I want it to be a good quality picture. Because when I see other people on youtube doing makeup tutorials, their pictures come out perfect and you can see all the details in the makeup. So any tips on how to avoid the glare of the falsh but still, ya know, take an awesome picture? Also if you have any good good digital camera suggestions that would be good for my situation. Thanks!!!

You have a couple of options.

1. Get into a well lit room to take the picture, and turn off the flash.

2. Use a flash that has the capability to rotate the flash head. You can then rotate the flash head to point up, and then bounce the flash off of a white card to difuse the flash.

I have used both options. I feel that option 2 works a bit better, but it will cost a bit more money as the speed lights with tilt heads are not cheap. To get better lighting in a room, I've used some cheap work lights from the hardware store, and got some light bulbs from the local photography store (Ritz camera). This worked quite well. Either of these options should allow you to reduce the hot spots from the flash.

Why do you insist on using flash? Are you in a dark room? The only time you can use flash that will not mess this up (in a close up shot, that is), is a ring light. It's $500. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-jU2uN7ofvra...

Just turn it off. Go outside under a cloudy day (or under a shade).
