What are the best settings in a digital camera for a Wedding?

What are the best settings in a digital camera for a Wedding?

Use "shutter priority" mode (Tv on some cameras) at 1/250th of a second. When the pictures start to get too dark because of the low light, drop to 1/125th of a second and use your flash alot.

If you can set the ISO, it is 100 in daylight, 200 in medium shade and 400 indoors.

Sarah, hopefully you are asking this purely as a guest who wants to take good snaps, and not as the official photographer, paid or un-paid. As a guest, stay out of the official photographer's way. Don't try to shoot the formals over their shoulder or jump in front for a better angle. In fact, you could do the bride and groom a real service if you concentrate on getting the pictures that the real photog doesn't get. Pictures of friends and family having a great time together will be appreciated by the couple.

Your camera will have scene modes. Unfortunately, one of them doesn't say "wedding". That is because all weddings are different. The lighting is different, some are inside and some out, you may be close to the action at one and far away at another. Your portrait mode will be fine for portraits. I wouldn't use it all the time, just for closer people shots. If there is lots of light, turn your flash off inside for a few. Using the beach mode is great if the wedding is on the beach or at the shore of a lake in bright sun. Using beach mode all the time may make your pictures be overexposed.

You really would benefit from reading and studying your camera manual. Read for understanding. If you don't understand the terms used, get a simple book on beginning photography. Learn how to adjust the settings and more important, WHY to adjust the settings. Then practice and put your new understanding to good use.

My favorite setting is either Portrait (flash on) or Beach. Portrait with the flash always on will get rid of most blemishes that may appear on someone and it tends to take the best pictures but if you're taking a picture of an inaminate object (a cake for example) switch it back to auto or the cake will wash out. If you're looking for more of a 'dreamy' look to the pictures the Beach setting will give all of your pictures an orangy/golden glow that looks great. Remember to take all the pictures in color because you can always switch them over to black and white with a digital camera and try experimenting with different things before the wedding. Some camera's take pictures differently than others.

Start with your cameras RAW setting - this will give you the best post processing options - Too many other variable to give a generic answer... but RAW should be a must! Even if you have to learn how to process RAW later - you will have the most "data" to work with... JPEG is a compressed format and good for snappy shooters... good luck

outdoors can be interesting... i tend to use the meter in the camera or a hand held meter and put the cam on m for manual. Then decide how you ideally want them to turn out. A mounted flash on cam would be a good idea with a diffuser perhaps. Past that... depends on the light present.

oh boy... please tell me you ARNT shooting someones wedding... there is no right on wrong setting... there is only what works best to capture the moment and if you dont know that inside and our you should NOT be risking someones lifetime memories!! Sorry to sound negative, but i hope your just a guest.

I hope you aren't planning on photographing a wedding. Your question tells me that you aren't ready for such an assignment.

The best setting depends on light and you can not shoot a wedding with a P&S.

its the portrait setting it should be pre programed in ur cam allready
