Best camera for long distance work?

To be able to take a photo from about 50 feet?

Needs to plug and play with Xp/Vista

Seriously, any 6MP P&S that has at least a 10X lens is good enough, more X would be better if your subject is small.

Any point and shoot digital will do a great job of shooting from 50 feet if the subject is still and the lighting is good. Just look for at least 6 megapixels, optical zoom (never use digital zoom), and image stabilization.

For action, sports, or other moving subjects, you'll need a DSLR. A DSLR will give you virturally instantaneous response, without the shutterlag that is common to digital compact cameras. Those cameras will allow you to capture the moment, not the moment after.

Incidently, 50 feet isn't considered a "long distance" for many photographers. Shooting sports, I'm often at the opposite end of a basketball court or football field from that great photo.

this is the best camera ever! there is a version of it that can hold more, and a version that has more mega pixels. i wich i could say more but im in a rush. so nyway- this is the BEST CAMERA EVER it can do anything..........u can get it at www.walmart.com or any where else!

Try a Nikon D80 if your going for a digital SLR. If you just want a consumer digital try the kodak with 15x optical zoom or the Sony with 12x. If you want something try the Panasonic Lumix with 10x optical zoom.

It's the lens, not the camera, a 70-210 zoom will do the job, providing you own an SLR, or if you can afford a prime lens, a 180mm 2.8 will allow you to take great shots and blur out the unwanted foreground.

I just said many cameras ( P&S ) with optical zoom 10x or higher on any brand.
