BEST dslr camera?

Best in general, and best for the cheapest amount of money.

The best in general.. the Nikon D300.

The best digital SLR camera period: Nikon D3 or the Canon 1Ds Mark III (after they fix the AF problem the Canon has).

The best for the least amount of money...that's actually more debatable. These models are worth checking out:
* Nikon D40
* Canon Rebel XT
* Sony A200
and if you can find it still, the Pentax K100D Super.

I would compare all these models and pick the one that feels right to you in your hands. I personally would go for the Nikon D40, but that's me. In your hands, it may be different.
