Best AUDIO! in a Camera/Camcorder?

I want to know which camera/camcorder will give me the best audio when I listen back on the videos. Thank you

I am sorry to say this, but there is no camcorder that records great sound quality, even in professional camcorders. In all camcorders, the built in mic is what you would call Omni-directional, meaning it picks up sound equally in all directions. In most cases, this is bad, no matter how good the omni-directional mic is. In many occasions, the omni-directional mic will pick up unwanted background noise. The biggest problem, however, is that it will give you unfocused sound, and in rooms with bare walls, lots of echoing sound. In order to achieve good sound quality, you'll need a better microphone. The two most common choices are the shotgun, or lavalier microphone, I would recommend the shotgun (the kind of mics you see on boompoles in movie productions)- they are more practical in most situations. The lavalier mics are the tiny little things that clip onto your subjects clothes.
For Uni-Directional shotgun microphones, here are several models I reccomend:
1) RODE VideoMic $150- the best mini stereo microphone available, and also conveniently attaches to your camcorder shoe mount with its integrated shockmount
2) Sennheiser MKE300 $130- almost as good as the RODE mic in terms of sound, but it is not as well built
3) Azden SGM-X $110- I have never used this mic, but I have heard it produces good audio
4) Audio-Technica $80- This is an okay choice, but I would not completely recommend it. I have heard a distinct hissing noise with this mic- totally unnacceptable and shouldn't be on this list really, but it seems to be a very popular model
5) Azden ECZ-990 $60- I am only recommending this mic for its price. It is only a minor upgrade in sound.

I advise you to take note: All camcorders DO NOT have the capability to take external microphones, you must first determine whether the camcorder has a microphone input. They are available on some consumer models such as the Panasonic PV-GS320, Canon ZR-800, Sony HDR-HC7, Canon HV20, Sony HDR-SR7 and several others. These camcorders, and every other consumer camera have an input specifically called a 1/8" Mini-Stereo Microphone Input and will only take microphones with mini-stereo jacks (all the shotguns I recommended above are mini-stereo). The higher end mics are more expensive, and take an XLR jack. If you wish to upgrade to the XLR jack without buying a professional camcorder, you could purchase an XLR adapter, like the ones made by Beachtek for another $180 or so. The Beachtek adapter would allow you to use XLR microphones, giving you a truly professional sound.
