I need to buy a computer for school, I am in financial accounting, any suggestion?

I am not very computer literate, I need to buy a new computer that can have XP Proffessional, Microsoft Office and my school programs. I need to run several programs at once efficiantly. I also do a lot with my digital camera.

If you are in financial accounting, I'll assume you are proficient with Excel.

I'll also assume that you'll want a laptop (most students do for portability) if you're not into gaming or little gaming. Do note that laptops cannot generally be upgraded later (except for hard drive, DRAM, and in some cases graphics card on high-end models).

Most laptops/computers these days can handle all you need. However, here is a suggested build for a laptop:

1. Pentium Core Duo/Core 2 Duo
2. 512 MB, preferably 1GB DRAM (memory)
3. 60GM+ hard drive
4. 14.1" or better screen size (but laptops with smaller screens weigh less)
5. Video card - can be integrated or discrete -- doesn't matter for what you need.
6. Windows XP professional
7. Office XP (student edition?) -- should have Word and Excel minimum
8. CD-RW/DVD minimum
9. WiFi, modem, NIC

Most retail laptops under $1000 should have the spec outlined above. Or, you can cutom build your own at Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.

If you need a laptop, I suggest a Toshiba. If you need a desktop, it's best to get one custom built so you get exactly what you need in it without the extra junk that you don't from mass produced brands.

Well, I have to say, I think that you are avaible to alot of choice these days when it comes to making a desicion on a computer. You are a student, and you have a pretty on-demand job, so I would reccomend an HP,Dell, or Toshiba. If you are looking for more power at less cost, go with Dell, if you are looking for a good balence of power and cost, go with HP, and if you are looking to sped alot of money, go with Toshiba. Here are some links of reccomended laptops: http://www.dell.com/content/products/pro... http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shoppi... and http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cmod... And, seeing what your job is, I would reccomend Windows xp professional. Happy hunting! : )
