Is Sony DCS W40 a good digital camera?

I wanna buy one and I was just wondering if someone could help me with some advice...

The entire line of W class cameras from Sony are only so-so compared to the Canon cameras of the same class (the SD series). Currently the W100 is the latest model of Sony camera in that class:

I'm not impressed.

When it comes to pocket cameras, Canon makes the best ones. When it comes to full sized, fixed lens (ie non digital SLR cameras), Sony has better stuff than Canon. When it comes to digital SLR cameras, Canon dominates the market.

Anyway, the camera you probably want is the Canon PowerShot SD550 Digital ELPH:
