I want to buy a good quality digital camera which is compatible with a mac computer? i also want a good amount of megapixels, optical and digital zoom and possibly anti blur.
please help - i dont know where to start! They all are. We test digital cameras for a living. Over 100 a year. We're all 100% Mac, and in five years I don't recall a single camera not working fully on the Mac.
Macs are designed more with photography and design in mind than business applications, so in my experience they're easier to use with cameras than PCs.
As for the camera, if you want a big zoom model with anti-shake, all the Panasonics have a good Image Stabilisation and some have big zooms. The FZ8 is good but big (as is the Canon S5 IS). The Panasonic TZ3 is a marvel - 10x zoom, in a really small package.
Forget digital zoom, its rubbish. It isn't a zoom at all it just crops the picture most are.. a digital camera is just a mass storage device.. they are pretty generic regardless of the brand.. it just treats it like another hard drive.
i'd stick with a very well known brand though. .e.g. canon or casio..
it will say on the box or website what software it comes with normally.
cheapo ones normally just have pc software.. as for the software, there is normally newer versions on the makers website also =)
do not worry about digital zoom so much.. OPTICAL is far more important.. but depends on your budget.
5-6+ million pixels is best. Honestly, any digital camera is compatible with both Mac and PCs, provided you don't rely on a direct camera to computer connection.
The new digital camera will use some kind of memory card to store photos. Just pick up a Mac compatible USB card reader that can read the kind of memory card your camera uses (there's tons of them, and they're really inexpensive).
When you're ready to move pictures to your Mac, take out the memory card from the camera, and stick it in the reader. All your photos can be moved and viewed on your Mac. my suggestion
