Which camera is a good digital camera that is not too pricey?

I know nothing about digital cameras, and would like to purchase one. If you have any suggestions on a good one to buy it would be helpful. Also, is there anyting else I need to purchase for my computer for this and displaying them on a 360 or IM?

Most professionals recommend either Fuji, Nikon, Canon or Kodak..... tend to dismiss Sony's for not being quite as good + the memorycards (official SONY memorysticks) have a reputation for being damn expensive too compared to other cameras.

I'd suggest the Fuji Finepix A345, as reviewed here:

The camera comes supplied with all the cables you need to transfer it to the computer...... all you really need to buy is a larger memorycard (128MB) + some higher capacity Batteries (I'd suggest VARTA's "High Energy" range) - if you lose the USB cable for this camera, I've discovered it uses exactly the same connection as both the SONY PSP + the Nokia N-Gage handheld consoles (some other camera's I've gotten hold of use a completely different one that seems like they were only designed to fit that brand's own cameras only).

You can see some of my own results with this camera here:

I have and OLYMPUS FE-100

I LOVE IT!!

I'd start with Sony DSC Cybershot brand. Mine was kind of old-fashioned digital camera but it's really durable and has a good feature for a starting camera. The price is also cheap.
To fix the pictures, I used either picture manager or photoshop. It works well.

Kodak makes good digital, and they have several that are priced inexpensively.....and they come with software so you can dump them on your computer, edit them, etc......

canon powershot a510 less then $170 zoom lens easy on batteries. Small compact, has point and shoot if that's the mode you want to use. The memory cards are cheaper the some of the others. Uses 2 types
You hook up to computer and download no problem with xp other systems they give you a installation disk for their program

This is what i would do. First you have to determine what you want your camera for. For example. i just got the sony DSC-H2 (around $400). but i wanted a camera for taking picture of my kids basketball games. So i got a camera with a 12X optical zoom, and image stabilizer. I went to dpreview.com and imaging-resource.com and researched the cameras i was looking at they each have like a 10 page review of a bunch of cameras (most of the ones current in the market) and they'll give you technical data which for me was mostly giberish. BUT their conclusions are good, their feature lists, give you some idea of what you want, and also they have sample pictures. Then I searched the web for the model cameras i was interested in and added the word reviews next to it. and read user reviews. So basically my vote is for sony's cause i like them, the cannon's are great too.. I'm not a big fan of kodak's or HP's since they are not only toyish, i dont think they take good pictures; but it is easier for you to make up your mind when you decide what you want your camera for.
