I want to buy a new camera however I do not want to get one that saves files that are huge. 50-100 Mb not 900 or 1000mb. Is there anything I can look for on to tell. DO you know of any brands that do not save them as huge files? The bigger the number of pixels the bigger the file (generally). RAW images for a 9MegaPixel camera come in around 38Mb while the JPG version of the same pic is about 1Mb.
Generally for most compact cameras you'll find the pics under 1Mb each. Most digital cameras have settings that let you take smaller (lower resolution) pictures. My digital camera is 6MP but it will go all the way down to 640x480. No consumer digicam saves 1000MB files or even 50MB.
A 6 megapixel camera saves large-fine JPG files of about 2.5MB and RAW at about twice that.
By dousing the quality you can get them down to 500KB or even less on some cameras. |
