What digital camera would you recommend buying for a newbie?!?

Pics would be for framing, scrapbooking, collages, not to be enlarged in any great way! Thanx in advance for your answers :)

Start with the budget. This may seem backwards, but it's not. You can find a decent camera to match any amount of money you want to spend.

Next, find a friend who will help you learn how to use the camera. This "friend" could even be the clerk in your local photo shop. By "photo shop," I mean an actual camera shop or at least a camera department where the sales staff only deals with cameras and not dishwashers, too. Buy the camera that your friend recommends so that they will be able to teach you how to use it.

After you know what you are doing and are ready for your next camera - and this will come sooner than you think - you will be in a position to make your own choice.

If you have some vague ideas about price and ddesired features, go to http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare.... and see what they select for you.

Choose the best one by deciding what you want to do, how much you want to learn, how far you want to progress and how much you want to spend.

Anything but a Canon, they are junk...I've had good luck so far with Sonys......

I would go for a minimum of 3 megapixels but more is always good if you can afford it.
I think the most important factor when it comes to picture quality is the camera's flash. If you have a bad flash you will get bad picture with colors that aren't accurate.
Some cameras have stabilization features that can be very useful for action shots.
It sounds like you don't have a major need for all the other bells and whistles that are out there.

Most of the point and shoot digital cameras are good to very good these days. Canon Sure Shot, Kodak Advantix, Fuji Discovery are all good.

Olympus is good so far for me.

I returned my cannon for a Olympus. I love it. Easy to work with. It is the Stylus version. And the soft ware is very simple. It guides you through the post-processing step by step. From the time you take the pic to getting it in your computer and sending copies out via email or printed photos.
