Is 5 megapixels good or bad for a digital camera?

i'm looking to buy the kodak v570 digital camera with 5 mega pixels. Is that good or bad?

megapixels is just a hype, 5 megapixels is plenty good enough, the bigger megapixel, the bigger picture (memory) it gets (it doesn't mean the picture quality is better), you don't really need a 10 megapixel camera that takes pictures 5 or more times the size of your computer screen, unless you're a professional photographer and need to print large photos (life size).

Kodak V570 is a good camera, it has a 5x Optical Zooms that beats out the standards of 90% of the digital cameras out there 3-4x. If you spend a little more money, get the Kodak V610. Got 10x Optical Zoom.

5 mega pixels is plenty. These days what is probably more important is does the camera reproduce colors the way you like, and does it focus good and such or some other features you might like.

Here is a couple of reviews of that camera:

it is just fine
people worry about mp tooooo much

i dont know about kodaks but i do know that a 5 mega pixs is pretty good its one of the best for just you know people to own for like takin pics for just memorys but not one of the best for a pro

I have had the Canon Powershot S50 5 megapixels digital camera and it took super excellent pictures. I now have a Canon PowerShot A630 8 megapixels while both take excellent pictures I really can't tell the difference. I would give the nod to the S50. If you are considering a Canon, I think it is the best out there. 5 mps cam is pretty good, but check out the cost of higher pixels and go for the 7 to 8 mp there are even 10 mps for under $300.00 if you search the net. If you are planning on doing enlargements, go for the highest mps.

It's outdated, you might regret in in 2 years. I will buy a camera with at least 10 mp the next time.

I would recommend a Canon or a Nikon, the rest is not really special.

It's good enough and I believe it's plenty. Consider the fact that there are professional cameras that costs thousands of dollars a couple of years ago which were only 4 megapixels.

Four to six megapixels would be enough for almost all users of digital cameras. A camera with a good lens at 5 MP you couldn't tell the difference in an 8X10 photo than with a camera that has 10 MP.
The Kodak V570 is an excellent camera. According to Consumer Reports will give you excellent 8X10s when enlarged. The only thing I don't like about it is it will only give you about 150 shots before the battery goes dead. Hope I helped a little.
You might consider a camera that's not a sub compact such as the Canon A630, excellent on AA rechargeable batteries and 8 MP.

If you are mainly interested in 4X6 prints or to send photos
by email.. this camera is good for that.

I have a canon powershot G7 10 mp cam.and I love it but I dont need all of the MP all of the time,but it is good if you are going to crop the image. The camera I had before this one was a 5 MP Kodak easyshare V 570 and that camera took awesome pictures.....5 megapixels is plenty

Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera, Staples.com.]

Good luck!
