How much for a good digital camera?

I was looking to buy a good digital camera, and I was wondering how much to spend to get a good one. I don't need a professional grade one, just one that will take good pictures. I thought someone had told me that 5 pixels was good, but I don't know. How many pixels should I get, and how much should I pay for the camera? (Preferably under $200)

And what's a good brand?

A good digital camera runs about $400.

A decent digital camera runs betweem $200 and $300.

Minimum megapixels should be 6. 7 or 8 is better.

Sounds to me like the type of camera you want is the Canon PowerShot A620. Dell sells them for a decent price.

You simply cannot buy an acceptable digital camera for under $200. I mean you can buy a camera in that price range but it will just suck.

Check eBay. It'll give you an idea what's available and at what prices. How many MPs (mega pixels) you want depends on the size of the prints you want to print.
I have found 4 MPs to be plenty and they will generate pictures with file size of about 500Kb to 1 MB

Getting a 5 MP camera for under $200 can only possibly happen on eBay. If you're not going to enlarge the pictures past 8x10, then you can easily get a 3 MP camera for under $200. Sony is the best brand for cameras. They are easy, and the battery life lasts a very long time.

I would go for some of their lower priced models because they give you 4-5 Megapixels and plenty of features for around (and some under) $200. Nikon and Canon are good brands to get and are known for quality. Here are some models: Nikon Coolpix L3 or L4 and Canon Powershot A430 or A530. I hope that helps. the higher the pixels the better the camera, also you may want a shoot and point camera, or a camera w/ video feature, and zoom. check out www.target.com then go under electronics and click on cameras and camcorders and then you can search by price, pixels, and brand.

canon is a good brand. if you want a good camera under 200 is rather challenging.

cameras should be around US$300 for one slightly above average.
look at canon ixus 60 or 65
