What is the best camera brand to buy?

im wanting to buy a new digital camera. i just dont know what brand i should get. i want everyone to tell me there opinion on what the best brand is to buy.

Sanyo

I think Canon..

sony(cybershot)

nikon

Olympus

Kodak,canon,or sony

hehe i'm looking for a new one too. I recommend not buying HP... My camera just broke and it won't turn on again... :(

Best? I don't know. I have a Canon PowerShot A540 with a 1.0 GB memory card and I LOVE IT!!! It takes AA batteries, which is nice and easy to find and the card holds tons of pictures and movies. I can take like 10 minute movies. It's really easy to use too.
Make sure you get a big enough memory card in any case.

canon

I have a Kodak camera and it has been wonderful to me for five or six years. It takes great pictures and videos. Plus, it was pretty cheap, compared to the prices of some other cameras. My boyfriend has a Nikon. That is an awesome camera! It takes the best quality photos I have ever seen. It cost him a good amount of money. The only thing he ever complains about is- there are too many functions on the camera that he either, 1)Doesn't need, or, 2) Can't figure out how to use!

I think that they are both great cameras! I think it has a lot to do with how the owner treats the cameras.

Good luck shopping!

I've had very good results with Nikon. I have used 3 or 4 different models over the last 10 years. All gave great results. My 10 year old Nikon Coolpic 2500 with only two mega pixels still gives great results.

So I'm assuming that you just want a point and shoot compact/ ultracompact. If you look at any review site, Canon is the most popular and top brand. I own a Canon A640 and is very please with it for the most part. Other good compact/ultracompact brands are Sony and Panasonic. Nikon might take good pictures, but the major complain is that it's slow. Kodak sometimes produce good cameras and other times don't so it's not reliable. If your expectations are low and you are new to cameras, then probably any 100-300 dollar camera would please you. But to be safe, you should go with Canon. Oh and definitely not HP. I keep seeing complaints about them and perhaps not Sanyo and Samsumg because they don't specialize in cameras.

I have owned everything from a 1901 Kodak Brownie to the Nikon D40 in the last 45 years....from film to digital....

I have friends who own both Nikon and Canon, and Fuji has a huge presence in Broadcast TV with some of the most beautiful lenses you can get for $100K...yep, $100,000 just for a lens.

Having said that....I have a friend on Webshots to whom I will point you, who shoots both with a little Fuji point and shoot and a Canon 5D, one of the primier models in the Canon line.

Several other friends also shoot with Canons, but I don't yet know which models. I'll included their pages. I've gotten permission from them to give out these links.

On my own site, I have a mix of pictures in later albums which feature shots from a Fuji A820 and a brand new Nikon D40....both of which make crisp, color saturated, images.

The Canon SE is a great entry level DSLR....That Nikon costs more but the autofocus on it will focus in less than .25 seconds, IF you have a clean line or edge to work with, or texture in the subject....if the subject doesn't have some kind of texture, it like most autofocus cameras has difficutly finding focus....

I can't comment on the Olympus line currently, because only one person I know has one....she loves it, for many reasons, but it's about 3 years old and not a DSLR

My conclusion? Fuji makes great point and shoots....Canon and Nikon make fantastic DSLR's. The bigger problem will be picking one....almost any digital camera today will make an average photog into a pretty decent one....

Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you.

Steve's reviews updates the "Best Camera" list periodically:

This is somewhat out of date, but check this page for a general idea:

http://tech.yahoo.com/rc/digital-cameras... Most cameras mentioned have been replaced with newer models, which we will hope are as good or better than what they replaced.

Here's another resource for you. Look on down the page if you are interested in point and shoot cameras instead of dSLR's.

Here's another listing in order by ratings. They are only separated according to general groups, such as "Highly Recommended," etc. They are NOT listed within the groups according to higher rating. They are listed by date tested.

I have a Nikon Coolpix S5 with a 2GB SD memory card and Pictmotion by Muvee. It has a rechargable battery and is really easy to use! I would recomend Nikon(Coolpix)
