I've broken my digital camera :(?

Hi...
I bought a digital camera from Argos 2 weeks ago, took it out last night and somehow I've smashed the screen. I didn't drop it or anything but it's obviously got knocked or bashed in my bag or something. Does anybody know how much this will cost to get repaired? I've been on the Fujifilm website and they have quoted me 拢99, which was more than the camera itself! What are my chances with Argos.... I know they have a repair facility for some things but not sure if cameras are covered or how much they charge.
Anybody had a similar thing happen to them? Any help would be much appreciated... x

Hello, I managed a digital camera store and I can tell you to invest in another camera because, in most cases it is more expensive to repair a camera than to purchase another one. Just make sure, if you didnt this time to invest in a good camera bag like a tamrac or a lowepro because they have enough cushioning in them so just in case you want to throw it at someone or it gets pushed around in our purses that the bag will absorb the impact. Sorry about your loss I know how ya feel. Just in case ya didnt know nikon and canon are the top leading competitors and yes they make the best quality cameras!!! Take care!!

Start looking for another camera. Remember cameras are quite delicate.

Your chances with argos are nill to zero, quite rightly, you smashed it not them (I know you don't need to hear this)

Couple of options:

Try and claim in your household contents (bad idea as it will probably be below the excess and could affect your future premiums)

Continure to use the camera without the LCD (does it have a viewfinder as well? if so this is not the end of the world)

Put it down to experience and take out the warranty next time.

The 拢99 charge is proabaly a set repair charge set by Fuji, I doubt argos would be able to reduce the cost. Apart from the parts (and the screen is a fairly major component) there is the technicians labour.

it is cheaper to buy a new one

If Fuji quoted you more to repair than the camera cost in the first place, then you're a bit stuck. My advice would be to get a new camera, and make sure it has a good, protective case - you might have to buy one separately. That way, if it gets knocked in a bag it's less likely to be damaged.
