Can you help me pick a good digital camera within my budget?

I'm planning on buying a digital camera but i don't know which one is best. I want to know what the highest megabyte capability cameras nowadays have. i've seen some with 8mb resolution but i don't know if there's anything higher.

also, what's a good brand that's wouldn't go above $300?? can i buy something good with that already??

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

If you want to trim the budget a little, the Canon Powershot A430, A530 or A540, are all great choices. You will still need a decent memory card as discussed above, though.

Well, by all means, just buy some rechargeable "AA" batteries. The manual will tell you which ones are best as far as power, etc. Report It

go to ebay,look up digital cameras,and look under sony cameras.they've been the best for me and by the way 8mb is the highest resolution

eBay is good, but Best Buy is better. You can get tech support with Geek Squad that will actually come to your house and teach you how to use it. A good starter camera is anything by HP, and they are usally cheap.

There are 39 megapixel camera backs for medium format, but that doesn't fit within your budget!
In consumer land, there are a few point & shoots with 10 mp now, but more is not necessairly better. You can make a fine 8 x 10 with 4 mp, so you should be allright with 4 - 7 mp for most applications.
There are a number of offerings from all the camera manufacturers in your price range. Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Kodak all make good digicams. Try dpreview.com to read about many different models and specifications. Fuji probably has the better low-light performance among the non-SLR type of cameras.
