I have wanted to buy a digital camera for a while now. But just don't even know where to start... what are the main features I should look for high no of pixels etc?
Help!?
Nai Nai Here's where to start: Canon digital cameras are really the best you can buy for the money. Canon jumped into the digital camera market with both feet about a decade ago, so they have a huge head start over the other companies. Their cameras are very user-friendly and you get a good product with a lot of features for a low price. For example, I bought a Canon PowerShot A550 for $175.00, and it's really a great little camera. I looked at Nikon, Olympus, and Kodak digital cameras that cost more but didn't have all the features that my Canon has.
What kind of features should you look for? Well, the camera should have at least a 4X optical zoom for close-ups, and it should be at least 5.1 megapixel so you can blow up your digital photos to screen size without distortion. The rest is up to you. Some people like to have the bigger LCD screens on the back of the camera so they can see what they're about to take a picture of, some people like the very slim digital cameras for convenience of putting them in pockets or purses, etc.
A good place to start is Yahoo Shopping. You can look at the various models and compare prices. A couple of things to remember though: (1) Digital cameras go through batteries very quickly, so you should invest in a good set of rechargeable batteries. Some cameras have their own rechargeable batteries built-in, but most of them take AA or AAA batteries. For those, Energizer rechargeable batteries work very well. They're not cheap though -- $35.00 for a set of four and a charger. (2) You'll also want to invest in extra memory. Most digital cameras come with 16MB memory cards, which hold about 13 pictures. If you want to take lots of pictures, you'll need at least a 500MB card (I would recommend a 1GB card). You can find 1GB memory cards on sale at Best Buy or Circuit City for about $25.00. The important thing is to be sure you're getting the right kind of memory card. Most digital cameras use SD memory cards, but not all of them do (Canon digital cameras do though). So to be sure, you should ask when you buy the camera or get the camera first and then take the memory card with you to the store to make sure you get the right one. the new look ones are slimline to fit perf in handbag etc. they have bigger screens too- total perf! a simple rule is to look for the highest number of megapixels you can get within your budget. my suggestion

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions pixels are the dots used to make up the picture. look really close at a colour tv screen to see what i mean. the more pixels, the bigger the picture. but don't be misled into thinking that millions of pixels will make your photos great. the two other relevant factors are the lens and you.
if you are a beginner set your budget and buy a camera for that budget. a decent sized screen on the back is a nice to have, and simple controls. after that, go for established brands - canon, sony, etc, rather than something no-one has ever heard of which does loads and loads of things (badly). we are talking comapct digitals, they are all simple turn them on press all the buttons, play for an hour and you will be telling everyone how easy it is
all images enter the camera down a lens, hence lens quality is no1 thing,
as for megapixels if you enlarge bigger than A4 often then you need 6 or more, else 4-6 with a sharp lens is good.
as for brand some are GM some are Dodge some are Quackquack Electronics........e.g. go for the names you know canon nikon sony fuji etc
goto dpreview.com for more info You're at an advantage starting at this time because prices have come down and there're some good buys out there. Pixels are the dots that make up the digital picture and are counted in millions of pixels - the more the better. Good makes? Well, Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Olympus, Ricoh, Casio, (mostly Japanese). For around 拢100-150, you can easily get a 6-7 megapx compact with autofocus, 3x zoom, flash, etc. Choose one with optical zoom as they are better, SD card memory as they're cheaper and very compact but memory sticks are OK too, and if possible with an optical viewfinder. Some people prefer one that can use disposable AA batteries as they are easy to get when you;re running low. pixels on a camera are" the amount of dots per square inch".
a 3-5 million pixel camera is fine if you are getting 6"x4" photos printed. But the bigger you blow a picture up the more definition you will lose.
Without spending un-neccesary amounts of cash I would recommend a Samsung 8 million pixel camera. rrp 拢89.99 from Dixons/Pc world. that's a very simple point and click type digital camera.
I found it has everything you will need from a camera !!!!!!! A good solid brand is Canon. The cameras are reliable and picture quality is very good. A good place to buy is Amazon, their prices are very hard to beat. I personally would buy the IXUS 70 OR IXUS 75, both of which are around 拢150-拢170. If you have more money, go for a model with higher pixels and image stabillisation which helps prevent blurring.
Panasonic's Lumix range is also very good, virtually all of their cameras have image stabillisation. The web site below has an easy-to-understand buyers guide. A simple camera you ask?
Why how about a Fuji f20, currently over 拢100 on Amazon at the moment.
Good camera, good quality, affordable and reliable.
No need to look for a high number of pixels 5-6 mega pixels is perfect for anyones needs. If the camera is good enough the MP is but a mere factor of how big you want to blow them up.
Hope this helps. :) Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. Takes "continuous" 2 frames per second "action/sports" images;
4. Has macro feature for close-ups of small objects focused under 6 inches;
5. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
6. It's very small and light;
7. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards - a 2 gig card sells for $19 at samys.com;
8. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
9. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
10. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
11. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - samys.com, and Staples.com.]
