I mainly take family pics and action shots at kids' games. I like taking outdoor, indoor, and night time shots. I don't want to spend a fortune, but need a good camera.
Also, I know the higher the megapixel the better... but what about the zoom, and other things they list out on a camera? what should I concern myself with? You must ask yourself several questions first.
what am i using for?
will i carry it everwhere?
do i want zoom?
what kind batteries?
what kinda memory card?
how many megapixels?
first 3 questions will help with compact and full bodied.
as zoom camera are for the most part larger.
dont go for over 8MP, as picture quality actually decreases.
compacts tend to have smaller ccds. so dont go over 6MP.
Try to find a camera that take AA's, and either CF, or SD memory cards. these and around to stay.
I like the Canon s3 for zoom camera.
and for compact Canon PowerShot A710 IS is good.
sub compact you might have to look around.
or the SD600 is good too.
hope this helps sony cyber-shot any model is really good...and they come pretty cheap tpp Go to a good camera store and let them know all this and your budget. You need to hold the camera and view through it to make a good decision.
Happy shopping! Definitely a Samsung. Its like the best brand of digi cam eva! a good one!! duh!! u should get tha camara dat u like da best or u can juss go to walmart.com or target.com and look at thur camara's!! I would look at features. Do you want a higher quality and can pay for it? Are you looking for compact versus you don't mind hauling a camera bag. These are all things you should look at before purchasing a digital camera.
For me, I like it to be compact with high quality so I look at nothing less than 8mega pixels plus I want it to travel with no problem -- so Nikon Coolpix is the camera for me. However, my friend wants total quality -- 10+ megapixel, plus zoom, plus cd download etc. Price is no concern and neither is compact features so she went and bought a Canon with zoom lens and it was around $800.
Lots of good cameras. Just decide on what features you want, then it makes it easier. I have a Canon Power Shot SD600.
I absolutely love it.
I use it indoor
outdoor
night time
day time.
all the time.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
I don't know much about the megapixels or the zoom but all my pictures come out perfectly clear.
Sometimes I even take pictures while driving down the road [ passenger seat of course. ] and they all come out very clear. Truly I have found the all around best camera for the Money is the Cannon SD600 or higher! it is only about 1/2 inch thick and is perfectly rectangular with no weird shapes (so it will fit in your pocket or wherever without allot of bulkiness鈥? which makes it easy to take around places. The zoom is pretty darn good! And it takes excellent Macro shots (close up magnified) it also has action so you can take pictures of someone running without waiting for the shutter and the digital camera to reset for the next picture. In addition it has real good video & has good battery life & upgradeable SD memory slot. yeah there are other cameras but I travel allot for work and it is great to just slip this baby in my front pocket take with me sightseeing or to work and I hardly know I have it on me which also works great cause what people don鈥檛 see they wont try to steal in public like those cameras you always have to hang from your wrist or shoulder like a purse! Check the camera out on the web or at Best Buy or Circuit City or something yourself. The SD model is the best and the 600 is 6.0 Mega pixels 3x zoom with 10X digital zoom. If you go with a model larger than 600 the camera remains the same but the pixel rating goes up! Now about the price I paid $260 for the camera 6 months ago at circuit city I bought a 2 year no questions asked warranty replacement for around $50 more. So the way I see it in the next 2 years I accidentally drop the camera I go back to Circuit city and they give me a gift card for $250 & I upgrade to the new model and pay the difference.....what a deal! That almost sells the camera itself! Well Good luck & let me know what you decide on! Hope that helped? As soon as you say "action" and "night" you're talking DSLR.
I'd go for Nikon's D40X, 18-135 lens and SB-600 flash.
Yes, that's a good whack of dough, but those are your specifications. All of the major brands have their fans, and I have no doubt that they are all good cameras. The only camera available at the moment that I would stay away from is the Fuji S9500. I bought one and the photos are just not sharp and clear.
Take your time looking, they are getting better and cheaper as time goes by.
Optical zoom is the most important thing, get the most you can for your money.
Digital zoom is a complete waste of time, do not consider this as a factor when buying a camera. Once you have bought a camera, turn digital zoom off.
Get the most megapixels you can for your money. Up to about 7-8 megapixels. Sometimes after that, for technical reasons the image quality can actually start to drop!
As a very rough rule of thumb when comparing your final choices in camera, take the number of megapixels and multiply that by the amount of optical zoom. Buy the camera with the highest number.
Try to avoid a camera that uses two 'AA' batteries (except perhaps the Kodaks that can use the CR3 Lithium ion Battery Pack). Get a camera that either uses four, or one with its own dedicated Lithium Ion battery pack. (If you want to keep it for a long time, check the price and availability of replacement batteries. perhaps ebay?)
Remember at the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Don't expect stunning quality at $120. Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:
1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
9. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]

Good luck! According to Website dpreview.com Abe's of Maine has it for $215- A high quality camera. Fujifilm FinePix E900.
4X optical zoom, 9 megapixels. Has manual controls or just leave on auto. Will give you an excellent 8X10 print. Takes AA rechargeable batteries, is above average for battery life and only 1 second delay between shots. What's there not to like? my suggestion

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions I have a Kodak C743 and it has 7.1 mp and 3x zoom. It has settings for sports, parties(inside or outside),portraits, and fireworks. I haven't had any problems with this camera and it has been very dependable. look for it ur self stop bein lazy First off, higher mega-pixels does NOT necessarily mean a better picture. That's what is called the Mega-pixel Myth. Just because the camera has more mega-pixels doesn't mean a better picture. For the average user, anything over 3 MP will produce good pictures. Take a look at the sources link for more details on this.
I have a Canon S3 IS that I really like. It has many different modes, including Auto. It also has a 12x optical zoom lens. I'm able to play around with all the settings. But my wife, who has no interest in photography, can set it on Auto and use it as a point-n-click. The S3 can now be found for under $300.
Finally, take a look at the following 2 sites. They do reviews on digital cameras. Look through what they have reviewed and decide what best first your style and budget. Lots of great cameras out there. Steve's Digicams even has a link to what they consider the best cameras.
