How do I convince my mom to let me buy a digital camera?

I really want one and I found one I like (Kodak easyshare C653) it's only about $120 and I have about $400 from christmas, but she won't let me. I'm into scrapbooking but that didn't help.

What does Mom want you to do with your money? Does she want you to save it for the college fund or some other worthy milestone?
Have you been careless with expensive trinkets before? Is there some legitimate reason why she doesn't think you should have a camera? If so, you will have to address that issue first.

Scrapbooking (and photography!) are great hobbies and good for a lifetime of fun. And educational, as well. Journaling in a scrapbook is a literary workout every time you write! And you are creating a heirloom for your future.

Why not show your mother your question and the responses? Maybe you can reach some sort of compromise: You use half the Christmas money and earn half by doing extra chores around the house, or babysitting or something.

It's your money, why won't she let you? wasn't it given to you for you to get what YOU wanted?

What are her reasons for saying no? How old are you? These may apply, we really need more info.

If she is adamant on not giving you permission, then there is absolutely NOTHING you can do, other than buying it without her permission. If it is your Christmas money, why would she object to you spending a small portion of it on something to further your hobby of scrap booking? See if you can get her to say ok, by offering her the use of the camera, if she needs it.

I don't think you should focus your efforts on convincing your mom to let you do anything. What you should focus on is creating more of a need for the item that you want. How can you prove that you need a camera? It's not how you verbally batter her into giving up.
People are usually willing to help people willing to help themselves. It will show your mom that you have inititative, strong will, and dedication.

I would let her know how much money you will be saving in the long run between buying new film and/ or buying disposables. I think it's strange that she will not let you buy what you want with your money, unless you are 12 or something. She may just think you will loose it. Ask her why she will not let you, there has to be a valid reason otherwise I would buy one any way.
