I'm in Japan and i want to buy a digital camera,can i change the language to English?

I went and had a look at Sony cameras and noticed on the screen it was in Japanese is there option to change the language to English

It depends on the firmware, the software built into the camera. You can try to look for support online if you know the model. Some official websites offer firmware modification.

Yes, you can, but the onscreen instructions are usually in Japanese - ask the guy in the store to show you - ''Eigo de kawatei kudasai - watashi nihongo to kanji ga wakarimasen'' The guys in Japanese stores are not dumb - just hold the camera out to one of them and say ''English, please?'' They'll get it.

Yes, your sales man will surely do that in a jiffy. But why purchase Jap. Cameras in Japan! Some years ago when I was there, Jap. goods were much cheaper in Hong Kong and S'Pore. So much so that many Japs will travel to HK to shop for TVs and Cameras ( made in Japan). It was indeed a problem for the Jap Govt. - Jap things purchased outside being imported into Japan by Japs.

Don't by SONY. SONY is not that popular and good quality today in Japan.
I don't think it's nice quality.
Olympus, Nicon, Casio, and Panasonic are better.

By the way. Japanese products which are sold in Asia, such as Hongkong and Singapore are not as same quality as in Japan. Japanese maker place in the store differ quality of their products in Asia.

Yes, you can. I know a lot of people who bought their cameras from japan but the brand is canon not a sony.
