Is there a such thing as a digital camera with super macro capabilities w/o having to buy additional lenses?

i want to know if there are any digital cameras, around $300 or less, that have the capability of taking really great macro/up close shots - really clear shots, with out having to buy additional/separate lenses? i want to do super macro shots! but then i get confused when it comes to having to buy additional lenses, figure out different settings, etc. thanks!

I just took a look at dpreview's site and it is really tough to determine if any of those cameras have a "super macro" capability.

There are listings for the closest you can get to a subject, but that can depend upon other factors, not the macro ratio.

When you say "super macro", I am assuming that you want to get at least a 1:2 magnification factor (like many of the macro lenses available for SLR and DSLR cameras) or maybe even a 1:1 ratio where the size of the image on your sensor is exactly the same size as the subject.

You may just have to go into a camera store and "test" every camera they have in your price range. I did that when I first started looking into digital cameras. It was worth the time and gas to do it for me, any way.

The ability to shoot very close to your subject is a common feature on digital cameras. You are most likely to find it on cameras with a relatively small zoom range (3X or 4X optical rather than than 10X or 12x optical).

I know the Canon Powershot S2 IS has a super macro mode. Also it has 12x optical zoom. The S2 IS has been dicontinued and has been replaced by the Powershot S3 IS. The S3 IS has all the same features as the S2 IS but has a higher pixel rating and larger lcd. The S3 IS is 305.00 at amazon.com
