right now im trying to figure out a bag to hold all my stuff:
D200 w/ grip
Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR
Nikon 50mm f1.8
Nikon 60mm f2.8 micro
Nikon 1.7 teleconverter
Sigma 18-50mm f2.8
laptop 15"
Right now I have a Nova 4 and its nice but it doesn't hold my 70-200 or my laptop and the shoulder bag hurts my back, so im thinking im going to need a backpack
Lowepro makes great backpacks for camping, but their backpacks for cameras really suck in terms of shoulder straps and support
Any ideas anyone? A Lowepro Stealth Reporter D650AW would fit all of that(including the laptop) quite comfortably.
It's a shoulder bag, though, so may fails one of your other requirements.
It would be worth checking out, though, because it also has a waist strap that serves to distribute some of the weight over your waist. The waist strap isn't enough to support the bag on its own, but for me at least it helps me to comfortably carry more weight than I could in a normal shoulder bag.
I can often carry 10-15 lbs of equipment in my D650AW, while I find 6-8 lbs to be a practical limit in the Nova 4.
By the way, i just bought the Nova 4 a few weeks ago. For what I bought it for, I love it, although I admit that it doesn't replace the bigger bags. Squeezing in the notebook computer makes it tough.
I just keep the notebook in its own case along with an external 300GB drive and all the other things notebook computers seem to need (wireless mouse, Cat-5 cable, PC-cards or Express cards and a lot of fresh CD-R's and DVD-R's).
I have a good size back pack (purchased at a local sporting goods store) that does not say, "Steal me, I am a camera bag" on it. In the backpack I carry 2-D200's with a 12-24mm, 24-85mm and 70-300mm lens and two SB-600 flash units as well as a 22" reflector (folded up of course). Both D200's have the MB-D200's on them.
It all works for me when I am in the field. That way when I am out hiking, my notebook is safely in its own bag. Can't answer your question but you may want to ask the same question in this Nikonians forum: http://www.nikonians.org/cgi-bin/dcforum...
You'll certainly get more help there and along with any other nikon related questions. Nah I'm in the same position as you. But I'll share my mistakes.
First mistake - A "High Sierra" Backpack. Has a compartment for the laptop as well as the portable CD player, phone and everything else you can think of. It's exceptionally well padded and supported. It has many compartments but not structured correctly to be a camera bag. Therefore each lens etc has to be well padded in its own right. Whilst I did this for a while, it makes the thing a bit of a disaster to use out in the field.
Second mistake - "Premiere" Camera backpack. This one is a great camera backpack I would recommend it, except that it does not have a laptop compartment. On normal day trips hiking around for landscape shots, I don't take the laptop. It's too heavy and you waste a lot of time starting it up and shutting it down to do a basic review of shots you have taken. Also do this 4 times in a day and the battery is about flat anyway. So I like this bag for local work. Only problem is that I am about to travel overseas. Now I need a bag that can do it all and neither if these are really what I want.
I do like fhotoace's answer, I think even on the aircraft I am allowed to take a separate laptop bag.
Congratulations on a nice selection of camera gear too!
Hope this helps a little. |
