Bolex 16MM movie camera? |
I recently purchased at a yard sale(for 5 bucks) a beautiful Paillard Bolex "Rex" 16mm camera, in it's carrying case with a ton of accessories. It's a turret camera and has all three lenses. It is in great shape and runs well. Is this worth using? If so, where can I get film for it? Have the projector, too. Many animal documentaries were shot with just that camera. You may have to order the 16mm film stock and send it off for processing (if you shoot negative film you will also have to have a "one light" print made so you can edit it. If you have the money, check eBay. I only say 'if you have the money' since they are probably old, rare, and collectable. If you want to make movies and digitize them, however, also check for digitalization kits that change old 16/32mm film to any digital film format (I recommend one that supports Quicktime, Windows Media Player, and DivX formats) and to edit them later on without buying expensive analogue editing equipment. Compared with today's editing programs, those things are pretty much 2-ton gorillas! I hope that helps. you won't get film and processing at a yard sale. shooting 16mm silent film is a very exspensive hobby. the image quality is better than VHS but nowhere near that of digital video. |
