Is there a big difference between quantaray lens, sigma and nikor?

I was thinking about buying a Nikon N80 Film camera with
Nikkor 50mm F/1.4d lens
28-80 mm lens - Qantaray
100-300mm Lens - Quantaray
Sigma AF 70-200 mm F2.8 Zoom Lens which "may need service" (obviously this means that it DOES need service)

along with a bag and UV filters

First question is $200 a good deal given the cost of film cameras today?

Second question. How are the lenses. I have heard some bad things about Quantary lens. Is this true? Will the quality be any worse using these lens? SHould I not buy it because 2/4 Lenses are QUantary and 1/4 lenses "may need service"

Please any insite on this would be appreciated.

That is a good price .. just replace the other lenses with Nikon's as they break.

I got a 28~80mm Sigma with a N60 I bought for my ex-wife and she says it is still working fine.


The key here is to learn how to shoot great images and what different lens lengths will do. Shoot and shoot and learn.

Take a couple of photo classes at a community college and have some fun exploring your world

I had a nikon digital camera, the lens NEVER GOT STUCK! not even once! and i had it for 2 years, still worked good but decided to upgrade. Now that was a mistake, i bought a casio camera, and the lens gets stuck EVERYTIME i turn on the camera, so you should stay with nikon b/c it's a pain in the *** to fix broken lenses.

Nikkor lenses have always been considered to be some of the best glass out there.

Sigma makes some good glass as well. Sigma makes Quantaray for Ritz. I would guess that the quality is not the same.

The real issue is why do you want a film camera at all? The quality of a digital 35mm style camera is far superior then a film camera. Plus, by using digital you eliminate wet processing, and the time it takes to view the images -- not counting the ability of deleting bad digital images and reuse those pixels -- not so with film. Reconsider what you are buying.
