I will be buying the DMC-FZ18 when it comes out in Sept. I will need a wide angle lens attachment. Is there a lens that can take a picture of a building 50 feet wide, 20 feet high from a 30 foot distance with either no distortion or nominal distortion. Compactness is also very important which is why I will be buying the Panasonic DMC-FZ18. I am not locked into getting that camera, any suggestions for a different camera would be welcome. It must be compact, with a through the lens viewfinder as I will be taking some pictures in bright sunlight which will render the LCD screen useless. It should have good macro. I don't want a full size DSLR because if I have true interchangeable lenses, foreign matter will enter the camera. This camera will be mainly used in the field. Thank you in advance for your suggestions. Look at the link in my sources, scroll about halfway down and look under "Add On Lenses", and that will be your best bet.
With these add-on lenses and how close you will be to the building, I think the chances for distortion could be highly likely, so just as a consideration, you might want to check out an application plugin like PTLens (link 2) that works with applications like Photoshop to correct distortion, so that may help, too. I've used it extensively with the 10-22 ultrawide lens on my dSLR, and it has saved tons of people from looking like they're in a funhouse mirror in my photos.
Other than that, the FZ18 really looks like a great camera...that 18x zoom is something to be reckoned with. |
