I just got an old 8mm camera, but I have a problem. Any help?

Okay, so I got an old 8mm camera (specifically a "Sankyo XL-420 Supertronic" which was made in the early 80s and late 70s). I found a universal AC adapter that gives the camera power. However, I take the lens cap off, and when I look through the viewfinder, all I see is black. Does anyone know how I can see through the actual lense? I tried pressing every switch on the camera, but nothing works. Anyone know if a specific part is broken? Thanks in advance.

Video cameras are not TTL, meaning you cannot view directly through the lens. Your monitor is not functioning. The camera was probably dropped. You may be able to repair it; open it up and check for loose wires.
