What are better lenses for my camera german or japanse ?It really depends on the lens. I would say that today, the only German lenses still available are some of the best lenses on the planet. The reason for this is that the Japanese have really taken over in this area, and make some excellent optics in all price ranges. So any mediocre German lenses just wouldn't be viable on the market so they are no longer made. Zeiss, Leica and Scheider are the top manufacturers in Germany and they all make outstanding products.
The Japanese brands offer a far wider selection today, everything from low-end consumer products all the way up to the very best. Nikkor (Nikon), Canon, and Fujinon in particular make excellent glass. In fact, Hasselblad, who had partnered with Zeiss Germany for many decades, recently switched to Fujinon optics for their H1, H2, H3 line of medium format digital cameras (however, the lenses for their 500 series are still Zeiss Germany). Canon glass is very well-respected by sports and wildlife photographers. And of course Nikon is used by tons of pros for photojournalism, nature and sports as well.
A couple of things to think about:
1) Not all manufacturers make lenses for all cameras. You can now get Zeiss lenses for Nikon, but only a few models. Lenses from Canon and Nikon are not generally interchangeable.
2) The wide range of models from the Japanese makers means that there are dogs mixed in with the great stuff. In other words, most of the top pro (and expensive) lenses from any manufacturer are usually excellent. But there are many mediocre lenses from even the well-known makers like Nikon and Canon.
3) The Japanese brands now have lenses made in Singapore, China, Malasia, etc. Not that this means they aren't any good. But don't assume that because you are buying a Japanese brand that the lenses are necessarily made there. thats a tough call .......they are both excellent........
