I switched the camera on connected it to the Laptop downloaded some pictures, disconnected the wires, switched the camera off and the lens failed to retract and the legend Lens Fault came up, I tried switching on and off even took the batteries out, fitted fully charged ones, any Ideas? I have a coolpix 5100 and i had the same problem some time ago. O.K i used a risky strategy of forcing the lens in against a soft pad. It did the trick to get the lens back in and I have never suffered the same issue since. I am not suggesting that you do the same but it is what I had to do. I think that I had a grain of sand in the mechanism from the beach and this clogged the retracting gear. But like i say it worked for me.
