What is the history of Vemar camera lenses?

I think it was a post-WWII Japanese company. They mainly made screw mount lenses. I don't think the company still exists or possibly it was bought out.

I was able to find a few lenses for sale in a couple places, however, no company info whatsoever anywhere on the web.
