Are all camera lenses comaptible with other cameras, no matter the brand? |
I have an old yashica in bad shape and 3 lenses that are in amazing shape and would like to use again. In short no they will not be compatible. Always best to stick to the same brand as your camera. However, there are lens manufacturers like Tamron & Sigma who make lenses that will fit most cameras. These tend to be slightly cheaper than the camera manufacturers. short answer- no. Camera manufacturers use different mounts so you will buy their lenses too. their are two different basic typs of mounts. a screw mount, and a bayonet mount. a screw mount does just that. It screws into the camera like a big screw. A bayonet mount usually has an allignment point of some type that you line up and then insert and click the lens into position. But thats where the similarities end. different manufacturers locate apeture release and autofocus connections in different places around the lens mount. It's is true that some lesser known manufacturers will use mounts from the bigger more well known guys. For instance the Pentax K mount bayonett style mount is common on a range of after market cameras. Depending on just how old your Yashica lenses are, You could try a couple of different things. 1. Of course buy a new Yashica camera that will use these lenses. 2. search some of the larger camera outfits, and aftermarket manufacturers and see if anyone makes an adapter ring that will adapt your lenses to whatever camera you wish to use. 3. see if there is a 3rd party manufacturer that sells a camera that uses your particular lenses, 4. how bad is the old camera? Any chance of getting it fixed?, 5. Search e-bay for a compatible camera. I had luck with them doing this very thing. no of course |
