How to fix lens cap problem with my JVC GR-D33 video camera?

Factory trained camera tech here. I own one of these cameras and they are actually quite good for their price.

However, several recent models of JVC camcorders had an inherent defect from the factory, including the GR-D33U. The defect was a high failure rate of the (Sony-made) CCD image sensors in these cams. JVC has posted a notice on their website stating that they will cover this defect under an special warranty if the camera is sent directly to them. See the listed link below.
