Older camera...need lenses, where? |
Hey, I just found my dad's Minolta X-700 in storage and I was wondering what websites I could purchase new lenses for it. I tried eBay but just came up with lens filters or ones that were with the camera when I came across it. Thanks! KEH There are a lot of perfectly good second-hand lenses out there for the Minolta X700. i have owned an X700 for years, great camera - made some good money out of it and won professional awards Good Luck! You could try local pawnshops like I did, with no success. There are a few antique camera stores on the web that could match you up.But the older the camera, the harder it is to find lenses. The X-700 was made around late 1960's-early 1980's.I have a Canon AE-1 about the same vintage.I ended up buying an auto focus film camera on clearance at Target;a Rebel Ti.Canon had to modify the lens mounts in the 1990's to accommadate auto-focus.Try the ads in Popular Photography,or Shutterbug at a newsstand.Several advertise older equipment for sale.KEH camera brokers in Atlanta,GA bought mine. But,I haven't checked to see if they're still in business. Most cameras were sold as a "kit" with a 50mm lens attached,so that's the most common. Another option is to find an adaptor that will allow you to mount another lens onto this camera. The most common adaptors are for M42 screw mount lens. They usually require stopped down metering and manual aperture setting, but will broaden the range of lenses available to you. You might find some lenses in the used section of B&H Photo. I have been using them for many years without a single problem. B&H Photo is available through a link at Yahoo! Shopping, www.bhphoto.com or at 1-800-622-4987.
